Badenhorst Family Wines, Swartland (South Africa) Chenin Blanc 2016

Dec 24, 2019

By Marguerite Thomas

The wine’s golden hue and its heady slightly floral fragrance are followed by lovely deep flavors that suggest mango and summery white peaches.  The vines, which were planted in the 1960s and 70s, are farmed as biodynamically as possible and are unirrigated thanks to granite soils that have the capacity to store water for a long time and release it slowly during the growing season.  In case you wondered, secateurs are pruning tools used to shape vines in winter and to pick grapes in summer.
