St. Supery has always resisted the notion that Napa Valley merlot should play second fiddle to cabernet sauvignon. Long one of the valley’s most successful producers of merlot from its Dollarhide Ranch, St. Supery also scores a knockout merlot from its estate vineyard in Rutherford. The 2012 exhibits layered black fruits, refined tannins and a hint of woodsmoke.
