Pahlmeyer’s Merlot from the 2012 vintage offers up a serving of that famous Napa Valley power and richness, a distinction usually attributed to Cabernet Sauvignons from the valley. This Merlot shows notes of ripe plum and blackberry, with a hint of graphite and cedar. The tannins are supple and integrated, and on the palate the wine is soft and fleshy and ready to drink now, a crowd-pleaser in search of a thick, juicy, rare steak.
