The Haven Vineyard has four soil types on a vineyard area of four acres, producing a wine that manages to integrate density and finesse into one complete package. The nose has forest floor earth tones, black tea lowlights, and a meatiness that complements the dark berry fruits. The combination provokes comparison to quality red Burgundy. The palate is both powerful and supple with a fleshiness wrapped around a concentrated core. Warm spices from well-done oak yield to a long fresh and firm finish. This is complex wine worth cellaring, though decanting and drinking now is almost irresistible. Ted Lemon has produced a real winner with this Burgundian-styled Pinot Noir.
