Bava’s wines are new to me, but from now on, I’ll definitely be paying close attention on the strength of wines like this Barbera, as well as a striking 2006 Barolo. This wine is medium-bodied, which is good news and a refreshing departure from the current trend toward overly-ripe, insufficiently fresh renderings of Barbera. Although modestly weighted, it is full of satisfying, persistent flavors, and the finish shows bright edging that will enable the wine to work well with tomato-based sauces while also succeeding with white meats like pork or veal.
