Souverain, North Coast (California) Merlot 2010

Dec 11, 2012

By Gerald D. Boyd

Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah for this tasty Merlot bottling were gathered from Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino, fermented separately by vineyard, then aged for one year in French oak. The result is a lush, fruit-forward wine with a deep purple-red color, ripe plum and black cherry aromatics, full dark fruit flavors, hints of mocha, cedar and anise, 13.9% alcohol and good length. This Merlot is an example of skillful blending by winemaker Ed Killian for balance and flavor, and it’s a great value.
