Brancott Estate, Marlborough (New Zealand) Pinot Noir 2016

 Though noted for planting the first Sauvignon Blanc in New Zealand’s Marlborough region, this wine shows the potential of the country’s other celebrated grape, Pinot Noir.  Revealing the versatility of this particular variety, this wine shows off a meaty, smoky character that borders on rustic, yet safely maintains a fresh, clean vibrancy so indicative of New Zealand wine.  Aromas of savory charcuterie and dried cherry are shrouded in dark, wet earth leading to a palate evocative of dried red fruits and meaty smoked portobello mushroom.  While rich in flavor, the structure is approachable and lifted.
