Carruth Cellars, North Coast (California) 2017

Jan 28, 2020

By Rich Cook

This San Diego area winery sources fruit from around the state and uses it to great effect in this bottling – likely a blend of Sonoma and Napa fruit,  maybe a bit of Lake County as well.  It’s quite convincing as a Bordeaux tribute, with earthy minerality complementing black fruit and generous wood spice.  This is just starting to unravel – give it a good decant or age up to ten years for full enjoyment.  Nicely done!  A Platinum Award winner at the 2020 Winemaker Challenge International Wine Competition.
