Aranjuez has won copious international awards, and now (lucky for us), they are starting to export their high-elevation beauties. Their 100 percent Tannat speaks volumes about the vineyard’s elevation which, at about 6,600 feet above sea level, helps provide the heightened aromatics and ripe tannins found in the wine. This wine is rich and layered, with blueberry and raspberry notes accented by a gentle nutty undertone. It is rustic and brooding, yet has a beautiful, balanced oak complexity. This will benefit from a bit of breathing space, so give it an hour of aeration if you can.
