Grüner Veltliners in full liter bottles — such as this one — are now widely available in the US market. The village of Engabrunn is in the Kamptal, and winemaker Karl Steinschaden’s family has tended the vines here for six generations. Although it has the more general Niederösterreich appellation, the fruit for this bottling comes largely from the Brunn estate. This 2019 Grüner Veltliner is bright, fresh and lively, with juicy lemon, lime and green apple scents followed by subtle green herb nuances. The flavors are clean and refreshing with a citrusy zest and easy drinkability. Grüner Veltliner is a versatile wine to pair with vegetable dishes thanks to its subtly herbal style. It’s a great match for warm-weather fare, from summer salads to grilled zucchini. It can pair with your favorite fresh seafood recipes as well.
