Some of the older Napa Valley players thankfully continue with what I call the Old School style, where blackberry and cassis fruit tones are joined by a little vanilla and a little pepper and herb vibe that contrasts the fruit. That’s what we’ve got here, and if you are only familiar with the New School style in which ripeness is king, you owe it to yourself to give this a spin. Particularly where food is concerned, wines like this are what Napa built its reputation on. Keep up the good work! Bonus: this was a favorite of my Wednesday tasting group when tasted blind amongst heady company.
