Esporão, Alentejo DOC (Portugal) 2016

Nov 23, 2021

By Marguerite Thomas

Portuguese imports were once dominated by inexpensive wines that tended to be decent if not exciting, but today you can find truly world-class options from Portugal.  The vast Alentjo DOC is famous not only for its cork production but is now one of the country’s major wine producing areas known especially for it rich, easy-drinking red wines such as the family owned Esporão’s Reserva.  With fine fruit flavors backed by good levels of acidity the grapes that went into this opulent red wine include Aragones (40%), Alicante Bouschet (30%), Trincadeira (20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%).  This wine is fragrant, bold, rich and simply delicious.
