Misha’s Vineyard, Central Otago (South Island, New Zealand) Sauvignon Blanc 2019

By Rebecca Murphy

You have probably tasted Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough region of New Zealand.  After all, it is the wine that brought the wine world’s attention to New Zealand.  But, have you tasted Sauvignon Blanc from Central Otago?  I hadn’t until I tasted this beauty with its light, bright yellow color and subtle lime, grapefruit, stone fruit, melon aromas.  The complex citrus and stone fruit flavors are layered and creamy in the mouth balanced with vibrant acidity.  It will be a perfect partner for grilled halibut or lemon roasted chicken.  Winemaker Olly Masters deftly achieved the fresh fruit brightness, complexity and creaminess by fermenting free run juice in temperature controlled stainless steel while the remaining juice was fermented at a warmer temperature in older French oak barrels.  Nice job!
