Marqués de Murrieta is named after Luciano de Murrieta, who is known as one of the founders of modern Rioja winemaking. Murrieta established the family-owned estate in 1852, making it one of the oldest Rioja Houses. Given its historical roots, this effort is Marqués de Murrieta’s “modern” style of Rioja. Tempranillo is the major player in the 2016 Dalmau Reserve, but Cabernet Sauvignon and Graciano add depth and structure to complete the elegant blend. The wine bursts on the palate with rich, round, mouth-filling black fruits, chocolatey oak, plush tannins, and fresh acidity. This is a wine that has power but delivers with finesse.
