Sohm & Kracher, Burgenland (Niederösterreich, Austria) Grüner Veltliner 2022

Jan 30, 2024

By Wayne Belding

Grüner Veltliners sold in full liter bottles — like this one — rank among the best buys for white wine.  Austrian-born sommelier Aldo Sohm is wine director at New York’s Le Bernardin restaurant, and Gerhard Kracher is director of the Weinlaubenhof Kracher winery in Burgenland.  Together they have created the Sohm & Kracher label.  This 2022 Grüner Veltliner is drawn from vineyards in Kracher’s home village of Illmitz.  It is bright, fresh and lively, with juicy lemon, lime and green apple scents followed by subtle green herb nuances.  The flavors are clean and refreshing with a citrusy zest, herbal complexity and easy drinkability.  Grüner Veltliner is a versatile wine to pair with vegetable dishes thanks to its subtly herbal style.  This is a delicious and refined white that can also serve as a fine companion to your favorite seafood recipes.
