Shannon Family of Wines, High Valley – Lake County (California) 2023

By Rich Cook

This may be the lightest tinged Rosé that has ever crossed my desk.  But, as those in the know will tell you, you should never judge a Rosé by its color.  It is quite unique as backstories go, with the fruit partially sourced from a vineyard propagated from what they call the “Mother Vine,” a Cinsault vine brought to High Valley from Croatia in 1870.  The nose is lovely, with rose petal, dried herbs, strawberry and a hint of blueberry, all of which carry through on the palate and finish with good complexity.  Serious wine in a seriously beautiful package – a worthy match that as you know is not always the case.  Contains 62% Grenache and 38% Cinsault.
