Lelièvre, Côtes de Toul (France) 2023

By Wayne Belding

This is a delicious, juicy Rosé that is a wonderful companion for a wide range of foods.  The Lelièvre estate is located in the northeastern French region of Lorraine – better known for its dairy products than for wine.  The Domaine is relatively youthful, established only about fifty years ago.  Vincent Lelièvre is a talented winemaker with a special gift for Rosé wines and is able to coax intensity and complexity from his grapes.  The 2023 Lelièvre Gris de Toul, a blend of Gamay (70%) and Pinot Noir (30%), shows a delicious combination of juicy fruit and elegance.  The aromas are forward and enticing, with pure raspberry and strawberry fruits enhanced by hints of citrus peel and spice.  The lively fruit of the Gamay is evident on the palate with its luscious raspberry, cherry and strawberry flavors supported by the lemon zest and subtle spice tones.
