Ixsir, Batroun (Lebanon) 2018

My experience is limited, but I have been impressive over the years when I have tasted Lebanese wines – mainly the reds of Chateau Musar.  This six-year old white made from 60% Viognier and 30% Chardonnay is a complex wine that will not please all palates, as it is both an unusual mix of varieties but also because the age results in intended oxygenation.  Having said that, it has lovely flavors of beeswax, dried apple slices and hints of caramel and would pair extremely well with denser poultry such as smoked duck.
