I have always in general preferred the Pinot Noirs of Martinborough on the North Island to those from the other side of Cook Strait – they seem to have more gravitas. This one is smooth and creamy with the flavor of ripe Bing cherries, even brandied cherries, and is long on the palate with some savory notes, mild tannins and good acidity.
