Cru Beaujolais deserves more attention. Jean-Claude Debaune’s Montchoisy Cru Morgon is already aged for several years but still booming with dark fruit and earthiness. Its notes akin to dried leaves, bramble, blackberry, and dried tobacco are well integrated. Gamay’s natural acidity makes Montchoisy feel young and bright while carrying five years of bottle age. Morgon is arguably the meatiest of Beaujolais’ Crus, with more power and more depth of flavor driving their structure. With a price tag under $20, this is a wine that will be easily enjoyed while expanding the palates of your friends and family over any get together.
