Adobe Guadalupe, Valle de Guadalupe (Mexico) 2018

Two decades ago, you could count all of Baja’s wineries on both hands.  Today, there are over 120 wineries in the region, so it can be overwhelming to decide what to try and where to visit.  So, let me narrow the list and tell you that Adobe Guadalupe is a must-try.  Adobe Guadalupe is a stunning, hacienda-style boutique six-room inn and vineyard.  The owners, Tru and Don Miller, created this remarkable place to honor their late son Arlo.  Fittingly, the wines are named after the archangels in Spanish.  Miguel, portrayed as the “great captain” of angels, is a beautiful blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, and Merlot.  This is an elegant wine overflowing with ripe red berries and spice notes.  It is layered with complexity and framed by supple tannins and bright acidity.
