This fascinating take on Shiraz is from selected old vine parcels grown on the Alkina estate on the Western edge of the Valley. The vineyard consists of 43 hectares that are organic and biodynamic. From a relatively light vintage, this 2022 “Birdsong” is not your typical opulent and powerful Barossa Shiraz. Deep and dark in color, it begins with an intriguing aroma of blackberry and plum with a subtle hint of pepper. Supple and smooth on the palate, it offers lively black fruit and earthy flavors along with a light dusting of tannin in the finish. This well–mannered Shiraz was wild yeast fermented and aged in concrete for blending followed by 2 months of aging in old oak foudre. Drink now through 2028.
