The quality / price ratio is unbeatable–show me a better $9 red wine than Altano. It has reasonable depth and balance, along with sweet fruit well integrated into a smooth, lightly tannic body. Altano’s owners, the Symington family, have been in the Portuguese wine business enough generations to know how to produce an appealing wine at a more-than-fair price. Altano is food friendly, and the discreet and sophisticated label makes the bottle look much more expensive than it is.
