Altocedro, La Consulta, Mendoza (Argentina) Malbec 2011

There is no question that Karim Mussi Saffie is one of the world’s greatest vignerons.  He is more than a winemaker; rather, he is someone who understands the grapes and what they can become. This Malbec is one of the world’s great wines.  Medium to deep ruby in color, it features bold red and black currant aromas.  On the palate, it is quite fine, rich and refined, but also very dense, with ripe red and black fruit flavors accented by some almost tar-like notes.  The finish is long and lush, with lively black currents in the aftertaste.  An incredibly exciting young wine.  Made from 97% Malbec, 3% Sémillon.
