Auteur, Sonoma Coast (California) Chardonnay 2022 ($50)

Sometimes a wine’s flavors are seamless, but in many cases it is just as enjoyable to find one you can enjoy part-by-part, as is the case with this Chard. It reminds me of a fuller Mâcon, with lots of both mellow and crisp apple and pear flavors but also with stony minerality that comes at the finish. Good to pass around before going to the table, then taking it with you when you do.
