Protos is a co-operative that produces classic wines from both the Ribera del Duero and Rueda DO’s. The wine displays the traditional tempranillo coloring of ruby in the center with a fade to garnet at the rim. The nose exhibits the same style with smoke, coffee, and toast. These caramelized aromas are even more attractive when complemented by the cherry and plum fruit. While not as extracted as some wines from the region, this is a fine example of a style that is more restrained.
