This low alcohol (11%) wine has a very pale, yellow color, with aromas and flavors of lemon, pear, and green apple. It is lean, linear, and crisp in the mouth with mouthwatering acidity. The flavors linger in the mouth with a long finish. Hunter Valley Semillon can easily age as long as twenty years, so if you have a good place to store this wine you will see that it develops richer flavors of figs and nuts and a viscous texture balanced by the crisp acidity. The winery was established in 1970 by Tony Albert, John Beeston, and James Halliday, a trio of Sydney-based attorneys who were amateur winemakers. You may recognize the last one from his many books about Australian wines. Their first vintage was in 1973.
