You will find Cantina Zaccagnini in Bolognano, a small town in Abruzzo sitting about 30 miles from the Adriatic Sea. The estate, which was established in 1978, has clay and limestone soils, and today boasts about 500 acres of vines. The vineyard is sustainably farmed and hand harvested. After sitting on the lees for 3 to 4 months this Pinot Grigio is aged another few months in stainless steel tanks. The finished wine offers refreshing aromatics, an engaging texture, and delicate stone fruit and citrus flavors. With its Stelvin screw-cap closure the bottle is easy to open, close and store. Oh, and what’s that decorative thing that looks like a piece of straw around the bottle neck? It’s a “tralcetto” — or piece of vine — for which the wine is named.
