Castello di Radda, Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG (Tuscany, Italy) 2012

By Michael Apstein

Befitting a Riserva, Castello di Radda’s 2012 has depth balanced by a gutsy firmness.  Even with its youthful vigor, the balance of dark fruit and savory notes is apparent.  An appealing hint of bitterness in the finish reminds you this is a wine meant for the dinner table.  Refined tannins allow you to enjoy it now, but will show even more complexity in another few years.  Frankly, I’d drink Castello di Radda’s 2015 Chianti Classico in the interim.
