Château Recougne consistently displays the quintessential Bordeaux profile of fruit and what I like to call, “not just fruit” character. This refined mid-weight wine entices with a subtle combination of red fruits, a dash of riper black fruit, and spice, not sheer power. Mild tannins give support without being intrusive and allow for immediate enjoyment. But don’t be fooled, I’ve had a bottle of the 1952 Château Recougne at the turn of the century when it was 48 years old, and it was still thrilling. Château Recougne is a wine for the dinner table, not a sipping aperitif.
