The deep ruby color and staining along the glass show the concentration of this wine. The nose has density without jamminess. Ripe plum, cassis, and blackberry aromas are followed by lapsang souchong, dust, rose floral, and herbal notes. The palate is more elegant than the nose with a core of acidity and lingering dusty tannins. The dark fruit flavors are lifted by floral elements, aromatic spices, and smoke. The finish has persistent iron, cocoa, black plum, and savory meat flavors. This is a pleasant drink from a lesser-known appellation of Bordeaux. While the wine might not have the breeding of the best-known St. Emilion châteaux, this is a ripe and polished wine.
