Concannon is an historic California winery but — perhaps because it is in Livermore Valley rather than one of the sexier regions — it one of those wineries that is easily overlooked. This limited production (300-case) Cabernet, available only through the winery, is a beauty, and a great value. The aromas and flavors suggest a medley of plum, dark berry and red berry fruits along with tobacco and cocoa. In your mouth, fruit dominates the wine’s tannins. The texture is smooth, and the overall impression is of balance, roundness and restraint. Plenty of pleasure here, and quality as well.
