 There’s a reason why Rhône Valley Syrah and Grenache grapes are so often partnered together.  With its relatively smaller berries Syrah contributes dominant dark blackberry/blueberry elements plus mint and/or licorice, whereas larger Grenache grapes chime in with lighter red berry flavors (strawberries, raspberries).  Grenache also can also raise the blend’s alcohol level.  Round and generous in the mouth, “Saint Esprit” makes an excellent partner for summery foods such as grilled chops and/or ratatouille.
