The red and rosé wines from Pinot Noir grapes in Sancerre comprise about a quarter of the appellation’s production but are often overlooked because Sancerre Blanc is so well known. The Domaine André Neveu is located in Chavignol, a village famous for the intensity of its white wines. Their 2023 Sancerre Rosé shows that complexity can be expressed in rosés as well. The aromas are bright, lively and enticing, with pure strawberry and red cherry fruits underlain by exotic floral and spice hints. Forward and ripe on the palate, its luscious cherry and strawberry fruits are enhanced by orange zest, floral and spice nuances. It’s a perfect summertime sipper. Fully enjoyable on its own, it has enough body and zest to serve with most anything off the grill.
