Domaine Carneros, Carneros (California) Pinot Noir 2009

 Exceptionally well-proportioned and harmonious, this wine is an object lesson in the virtues of balance and integration.  Close scrutiny reveals ripe fruit that recalls dark cherries and wild strawberries, along with backnotes of mushrooms, smoke and Asian spices.  Close scrutiny is required to extract these descriptors for the simple reason that the wine presents itself as a seamless whole–and a very impressive one.
