By Gerald D. Boyd

Marcillac is a small district in southwest Gaillac, roughly between Armagnac and Bordeaux.  Made from a local variety called Fer Servadou, this Marcillac has a very deep purple-ruby color, slightly closed rustic nose of dark plums and black pepper, low intensity fruit, crisp acidity, moderate tannins, 12.5% alcohol and a sour cherry finish.
