In 2013 the Easton family of Terre Rouge fame selected a special Sauvignon Blanc clone from Graves del Friuli-Venezia believed to be the best match for their vineyard in the Sierra Foothills. That clone is known to be highly aromatic, and this 2022 wine shows tons of bright, youthful fruit. From a low yielding vintage, the wine was fermented in stainless and then aged 9 months with frequent lees stirring. It is a brilliant light yellow in color with an aroma combining nectarine and melon with suggestions of lime. Nicely textured with good structure, it is slightly creamy with melon and light minerality. It all concludes with a lengthy finish. Balanced and ready to be enjoyed. I like the way the Eastons confidently say on the back label, you can “serve it icy cold” if you want to. At any temperature, this Sauvignon Blanc invites a second glass.
