Errazuriz, Curicó (Chile) Merlot 2008

Feb 10, 2010

By Michael Franz

The current releases at the (currently crucial) entry-level from Errazuriz are as good as I’ve every seen them look, with terrific renditions of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay as well as this utterly convincing Merlot.  It shows lovely aromas and flavors of black cherries and ripe plums, as well as accents of cocoa powder, dried herbs and freshly ground coffee.  Medium-bodied but full of flavor, the tannins are ripe and soft, enabling this to stand up to serious meats without overwhelming more delicate ones.  Excellent!
