The wind is so strong and persistent that it whistles though this vineyard in the Douro region of Portugal. Assobio is the Portuguese word for whistle, thus the name for the vineyard that produced the Touriga Franca, Touriga National and Tinta Roriz grapes in this wine. This high-altitude vineyard also faces north, which gives freshness to the wine, something you might not expect from this warm, dry valley. It is juicy, light and very fresh, boasting lively red berry flavors lifted with frisky acidity. That acidity makes this a fitting partner with a grilled tuna steak.
