This is a dry red from the Alentejano – a warm and dry region that encompasses most of southern Portugal. It is an amazingly good value red that will drink well for the next few years. Made mostly from local grape varieties (Aragonez 40%, Trincadeira 35%, Touriga Nacional 20% and Syrah (5%), it shows a luscious, ripe and juicy style. Layers of blackberry and red cherry fruit interplay with floral, herbal, and baking spice hints. On the palate, it retains a wonderful, fresh-fruit purity and displays a lovely balance of fruit, floral and spice characteristics. Those who love the richness of New World wines will appreciate the combination of ripeness and refreshment displayed in the Esporão Monte Velha Tinto.
