Tannat is the dominant grape in the Uruguayan wine scene. It is a powerful and tannic variety originally from the southwest of France. Don Pascual Coastal Tannat is fruit centric with black plum, blackberry, and black cherry complementing its gritty mocha espresso and graphite mineral structure. Despite the winery’s efforts to highlight fruit and soften the wine, the wine’s gristly tannic body demands a meat and cheese pairing. Uruguay is not a region to overlook in South American wine. Their Tannat is definitely not to be overlooked, either.
