Faustino VII, Rioja (Spain) 2009

Jan 26, 2012

By Paul Lukacs

A very traditionally-styled Rioja (with an appropriately traditional-looking label), this is a light-bodied red that tastes as much of sweet, spicy oak as of fruit.  In weight and body, it more closely resembles a wine made with Pinot Noir than the more robust, internationally-styled ones being made with Tempranillo in Rioja these days.  So long as you enjoy this light, delicate, old-fashioned style, you’ll find the wine enticing, and an excellent value.  But if you want something weightier, you’ll be disappointed.
