Francis Ford Coppola, Alexander Valley (Sonoma County, California) Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

By Wayne Belding

The Alexander Valley of Sonoma County has long been known for the quality of its red wines.  Its inland setting is further from the coastal fogs and allows more sunshine on the vineyards.  Coppola’s 2018 Director’s Cut Cabernet Sauvignon is a lovely blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Petite Sirah.  The aromas show black currant, blackberry and black cherry fruit backed by hints of lavender, vanilla and baking spice.  It has a full texture on the palate and offers layers of pure black fruits interwoven with floral, vanilla and spice tones.  It’s a delicious blend at a great price.
