Riesling wines from the Clare Valley in South Australia are usually bone dry. Jeffrey Grosset’s Riesling from the Alea Vineyard is a bit of a surprise. The residual sugar is 7.5 grams per liter, barely over the detectable level. The grapes were grown in Certified Organic and Biodynamic vineyards and fermented in stainless steel tanks. It was not fined before bottling, a process wineries use to ensure clarity in the bottle. The result is a very charming wine with ripe aromas and soft juicy flavors of peach, pear, and green apple lifted by bright acidity, perfect for sipping or serving with a spicy soft taco or a curry. Since no fining agents, such as egg whites, or fish-based isinglass, the wine is suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets.
