The Mâconnais in southern Burgundy is the place to find affordable Chardonnay-based white Burgundy, especially from a top-notch produced like Guillot Broux. Although the wine is made from Chardonnay grape, the Chardonnay on the label in this case refers to a village of the same name. Guillot Broux is a genius at extracting the maximum from less prestigious appellations, as is the case with this bright and energetic wine. They combine the characteristic fruitiness of white wines from the Mâconnais with an alluring and buttressing minerality, not often found in this appellation. It was even better the next day, having sat open in the fridge overnight. It delivers more than you would expect from a wine from the Mâconnais and is an excellent choice for current drinking.
