Proprietor Mitch Hawkins has built a solid track record in recent vintages with Cabernets from Lake County that can rival those made in the Napa Valley, 30 miles of winding mountain roads to the southwest. This vintage of his Red Hills Cab shows a complex mix of red and black fruits, firm tannins and splendid length and weight on the palate. It should improve in the cellar over the next six to nine years.
