J Dusi Wines, Paso Robles (Central Coast, California) Paper Street Vineyard “The Narrator” 2016 ($43)

The 2016 Narrator is a Mourvèdre-dominant, so-called “GSM” blend – Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre – but I’ll stick with GSM rather than going with MSG, which carries very different connotations. Mourvèdre does well on the U.S. West Coast with more single varietals and Mourvèdre dominant blends showing up each year. J Dusi’s 2016 rendition of “The Narrator” is a classic, big-power Paso Robles blend with super-ripe, nearly jammy fruit and cedar / cigar box notes. Pair this powerhouse with good friends and a hearty meal.
