Mariana Joao Pato is the daughter of the incomparable Luis Pato and sister of Filipa Pato, both respected winemakers in Portugal’s Barrida region. Mariana seeks to create her own distinct identity for Bairrada wines by creating labels as artistically creative as the wines inside. The 2019 “Nerd Durk” comprises 94% white grapes but displays a pale ruby color thanks to several days of skin-contact and co-fermentation with the red grape, Baga. The wine provides flavors of spiced pear, plum, bay leaf, and white flowers on the palate with a refreshing neral finish.
