Village wines from Burgundy frequently get lost between the Premier and Grand Crus that Burgundy aficionados search for and less expensive regional wines that serve as an introduction to the region. Wise consumers will not let Faiveley’s Nuits St. Georges slip through the cracks. Faiveley has managed to polish and add refinement without losing or obliterating the characteristic wildness of Nuits St. Georges. Enlivening acidity buttresses the ripeness of the vintage and imparts freshness. This wine, like many of the 2009 red Burgundies, is quite engaging now because of its opulence. Yet its balance suggests it will evolve and develop nicely with bottle age.
