Ken Wright Cellars, Eola-Amity Hills (Willamette Valley, Oregon) Pinot Noir 2013

May 8, 2015

By Wayne Belding

The Carter Vineyard lies at the southern end of the Eola-Amity Hills.  Made from a blend of Pommard, Wadenswil and Dijon clones of Pinot Noir, the 2013 Ken Wright bottling reflects the spare soils of the site.  It is pure, bright and lively, with the potential to age well.  The bouquet shows beautiful red cherry and raspberry fruits interwoven with hints of rose, sage, marjoram and baking spices.  On the palate, the pure, juicy red fruit flavors reveal layers of cherry, raspberry and cranberry fruit tones underscored by floral and herbal hints with a long, spicy finish.  While certainly enjoyable now, the 2013 Ken Wright Carter Pinot Noir can benefit from another 5 to 8 years of age.
